Is LASIK after cataract surgery possible?

31/8/2016

If you are having a cataract surgery, then plan on getting a LASIK in Singapore right after then it can be performed but it may not always be needed.

In a modern cataract surgery, a cataract surgeon can easily correct your farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism in the process with the help of a premium intraocular lens (IOL) that is customized to correct a particular set of refractive errors and help reduce your need of glasses right after the surgery. This is an advanced type of cataract surgery and is sometimes referred to as refractive cataract surgery.

The Process
It is very common for some people to sometimes experience dissatisfaction with their post-operative vision. So if you want to really consider laser vision correction after your cataract surgery then these processes are what you should be able to familiarize yourself with:

  • Post-Cataract Surgery – Before laser vision correction is considered to be a possibility right after cataract surgery, the patient’s eyes must already have fully healed first. In most cases, patients must wait somewhere around 3 months after their cataracts have been removed for them to be considered a candidate for laser vision correction.
  • Diagnosis and Screening – Eye surgeons require a diagnosis on their patients with regards to what caused their post-surgical vision problems. Patients that appeared to have residual refractive errors will be undergoing a screening to find out if they can be a candidate for laser vision correction. As for those who are not suitable then some alternative procedures will be discussed.
  • Preparation for Laser Vision Correction – Patients who will be undergoing Laser Vision Correction will have highly detailed maps of their eyes be created first to use as a guide during the surgery. These maps will ensure that even the smallest flaws in the cornea will be identified so that customized treatment can be guaranteed.
  • Surgery Day – Now that the preparations and tests have been done, it’s time for the patient to finally get rid of those visual problems that have not been resolved during the cataract surgery. This will ensure that those issues will be dealt with and that the patient will have a clearer vision once the procedure has been completed.
